GIMP Tutorials - Scissors Select Tool
The GIMP - Scissors Select Tool
I will be using GIMP 2.4.2 for this Tutorial. In this Tutorial I will show how to use the Scissors Select Tool to cut a certain object from an image. This tool can be useful to change backgrounds around another image. The best thing about this tool is it's very simple to use and the Scissors Select tool is pretty intelegent and can see the difference between foreground and background objects. This Tutorial will require two images. One that will need to be cut out and one to use as the background. I will use the Statue Of Liberty and remove the blue sky to put it on a firey background. ![]() Open both of your images separately and start with the one you want to cut out. < To begin, find this tool in the GIMP dock. This tool is often called the Intelligent Scissors because it can see the difference between pixels and colours, it can see large differences in change and this will help it cut accurately. Start by clicking around the image with the tool still selected: < The tool will automaticly "jump" to where it sees dramatic differences in colour. Once you have finished, make sure all the dots have joined (start to end) and then click anywhere in the center of the image. The line should turn to a "ants march". < The "ants march" look like this. Next right click on the selection and click copy.Next, open you background (fire for this Tutorial), and click Paste. Your image will be Pasted onto the background with the background removed. The finished result will look like this: ![]() Of course, this dosen't look perfect - but I will show you in a future Tutorial how to get it up to shape using different tools. =================================================== This GIMP Tutorial was written by Rovin. RE: GIMP Tutorials - Scissors Select Tool
Help! I am trying to cut and paste a photo that is of an object that is irregular, however, ever time I try to use the scissor tool and put it in my final design it pastes a border color around the object. What can I do? (My other program option right now is Coral paint 10).

What can I do? After you have your selection (marching ants), go to the Select menu and chose Shrink. Shrink your selection by 1 or 2 pixels, then copy it. |
