Update Your Sites to PHP 5.4
PHP 5.4 was released in March. Apache 2.4 was released in February. cPanel still has not completed support for these yet but appear to be getting close (PHP 5.4 is already in "experimental"). Although we have no plans to update immediately, after it becomes stable, we also will not be waiting a long time. Once compatibility is establish, we will be switching over the PHP 5.4 and Apache 2.4.
The switch to Apache 2.4 should not cause much of an issue unless you have some complex system of .htaccess files or the like. However, PHP 5.4 does introduce many incompatibilities. In fact, there is an excellent chance that it will break your site if you haven't specifically accounted for it when writing the code. This should only apply to sites you wrote yourself -- any modern CMS or forum system should be keeping up with the latest PHP updates. To test if your site still works with PHP 5.4, please download a copy of XAMPP: http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp.html We hope to make this migration, whenever it may be, as smooth as possible without any serious breakage. If you have questions or comments, please reply here or in the Support forum.

RE: Update Your Sites to PHP 5.4
Yeah, PHP 5.4 introduces a lot of incompatibilities...or at least warnings. It's weird that ereg is gone and you have to enter an "official" timezone name. I was getting used to just using "+10.0" but for whatever reason, it won't allow that anymore...strange.

RE: Update Your Sites to PHP 5.4
Where are some incompatibilities yet even with major CMSs.
For example, some modules for Drupal 7 still incompatible with PHP 5.4 and require manual updates. But generally PHP 5.4 is a great thing, and hope all updates for all major scripts will be ready in a few month. As for testing purposes on local system, I've used XAMPP before, but found The Uniform Server much better. http://www.uniformserver.com/ |

RE: Update Your Sites to PHP 5.4
I have no idea what PHP is but I am sure it is a good thing...
And yes, Drupal 7 requires manual update sometimes... But using PHP 5.4 might provide advantage. Only drawback, as one said, is incompability, but will resolve over time |
